Drawbridges proved to be a major inconvenience to high-strung Clevelanders, who decided to build a High Bridge that didn’t have to open for the boat traffic on the Cuyahoga River. When this world-class bridge opened in 1917, it made the Superior Viaduct drawbridge instantly obsolete.
